Community Outreach

Education & Conservation

At Aquaholic Aquaculture we take pride in local involvement and giving back to our community.  At the heart of marine conservation is an understanding and passion for our oceans.  In accordance with our company's marine conservation mission, we have initiated as well as participated in local outreach programs throughout the Tampa Bay area to promote marine education and conservation. To date, Aquaholic Aquaculture has worked with local schools, from Pre-K to High School, to help educate students about marine ecosystems and aquaculture, and to encourage them to be conservation-minded.

Inspiring Young Minds

Aquaholic Aquaculture teamed up with a local fish store, Creative Aquariums of Tampa, visiting a local preschool and introducing the kids to "Nemo", "Dory", coral, seahorses, and their other aquatic friends. We set up two display tanks and a touch tank for them, which the kids went crazy over. We also brought samples of our REEFreshments® Live Feeds and some of our stuffed animal friends (e.g., Copepod, Phytoplankton, and Rotifer) to help teach the children about microorganisms and the marine food chain.

Aquaculture Education in the Classroom

Picture
Samantha Rynn, owner of Aquaholic Aquaculture, spent a day with Jefferson High School's Maritime and Marine Magnet Program, speaking to the students about the mission behind Aquaholic Aquaculture and how the company was founded. She spoke to students about the challenges of running your own business, the importance of aquaculture, and the accomplishments and future goals of the company. Discussions with the students involved behind-the-scenes processes of Aquaholic Aquaculture, from raising microalgae to rearing demersal and pelagic larval fish. While some of Jefferson's students were Freshmen and Sophomores just starting out, several students were Juniors and Seniors who are at a critical crossroad time trying to decide future education and career paths. Speaking with these students is of great importance, as these students will be the next generation that can shape the future of the aquarium industry, aquaculture, and the health of our wild fish and reef populations.
